How to connect ModerBot to a Telegram group

Five steps and about five minutes. No website, no sign-up, no separate password — all of it happens inside Telegram.

Step by step

1

Start ModerBot

Find the bot in Telegram and tap “Start”. The first thing it asks is the language — Russian or English; that is the language it will write in inside your groups.

2

Open the panel and add your group

Tap “Open app”, then “Add to group”. Telegram shows a list of your groups — pick the one you want.

3

Make the bot an admin

Without admin rights the bot cannot see messages and cannot delete anything. That is a Telegram requirement, not a whim of ours.

4

Grant four rights

Exactly the ones listed below — ModerBot asks for nothing more.

The panel itself shows which right is missing, and will write to you if a right is taken away later.

5

Check the rules

The critical categories are already on. The rest — ads, links, caps, flooding — are turned on to suit your chat in the “Protection” section.

6

Test it

Send a test message to the group with something obviously forbidden — a link, say, if you turned the links category on. The bot will delete it and leave an entry in the log with the reason.

Which rights are needed and why

Four rights. Each one covers a specific part of the job, and without it that part simply does not work.

Admin rights
Without them the bot does not receive the group's messages and has nothing to check: Telegram hides the conversation from ordinary bots.
Delete messages
Needed to take violations down. Without it the bot can only warn, and the spam stays in the chat.
Ban users
Needed for bans, restrictions and lifting restrictions — that is, for every action stricter than a warning.
Invite links
Telegram grants this right together with managing members; it is also what the channel-subscription check needs.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to register on a website?

No. You sign in through Telegram, and the panel opens right inside the messenger as a Mini App. There is no separate password at all.

Can I connect several groups?

Yes, as many as you like. Each one is configured separately — its own rules, schedules and language. There is no limit on the number of groups or members.

What if I take one of the bot's rights away?

That part of the protection stops working, and you get a private message telling you which right is missing. Protection is never switched off silently.

Do I have to configure the rules right away?

No. The critical categories are on by default, and the bot starts working as soon as it has its rights. The rest can be tuned whenever it suits you.

What happens if I remove the bot from the group?

Moderation stops and you get a notification. The group's settings are kept: bring the bot back and everything carries on as before.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. ModerBot is free for groups of any size: every feature is included, there is no subscription to take out and no money is ever charged.

Ready to start?

Open the bot in Telegram, add your group and grant admin rights — protection starts straight away.
